Eamon O'Rourke

Eamon O’Rourke is the director of the music video production and marketing company Twenty-One Productions. He shares his thoughts on the music industry’s current state, why independent artists should look for alternative methods for exposure, what he does to generate interest in new videos and upcoming events, and some insights into how he got started.

One of the many things that set Eamon O’Rourke apart from other musicians is his independence. By working with production companies instead of signing with labels or anybody else that would have their name on a major album release, twenty-one productions can keep most of their profits by selling merchandise outside of record stores and concerts. He mentions that he is careful not to be too commercial when making his music videos because there’s so much competition. He has also faced some difficulties with the public’s reaction to his music and videos. “A good video can make an artist. If a video isn’t any good, no one will care.”O’Rourke says it is challenging to create good music videos for independent artists. One reason is that independent artists need a record company behind them to offer support such as distributing their music, marketing materials such as posters and posters, or even adding additional promotional items like lighters or keychains. With that help, independent artists can be more creative in promoting their music. “A good video can make an artist. If a video isn’t any good, no one will care.”

The second reason is that because of the limited budgets available to these independent artists, they have to spend most of their money on recording and touring instead of advertising or promoting them. “A good video can make an artist. If a video isn’t any good, no one will care.”

An even bigger problem is that many people with common interests have access to the internet and broadband connections. They can watch videos directly from YouTube or view them on Facebook without going through a third party like MTV. Eamon O’Rourke says that although he has had great success using the internet, his videos mainly dealt with creating interest in events and concerts for independent artists.
